Electrochemical processes proceeding on electrodes depend to a large degree on the type of substrate and on its structure as well as on its chemical and phase composition. The features of the substrate can facilitate the electrochemical evolution of gases on the electrodes or the production of various chemical compounds. There are many known examples of the electrocatalytic influence of electrode material or the active surface on the course of the electrochemical processes. For this reason the application of multicomponent and multiphase materials and the modification of their structure become more popular as these modified electrodes often exhibit very good electrochemical properties.
