The chemistry of a two-electron reduced product of organic molecules has received much attention in recent years from both theoreticians and experimentalists,as subjects on the design of molecular devices.The structural characteristics of organic pi-dianions are of fundamental interest in chemistry,and are essential to understanding of the peculiar properties and the characteristic function.The information on the structure of the electrogenerated pi-dianions is,however,quite limited in number,whereas the structural characteristics of the radical anions are well documented.In this report we have investigated the structures and electronic states of some organic dianions electrogenerated in solvents with the aid of the electrochemical and spectroelectrochemical methods and molecular orbital calculations.
