Frequency Control in Microgrid with Inertial Response of Wind Power considering Rotational Speed Characteristic

It is of prime importance to keep supply and demand balance in microgrid with high penetration of renewable energy sources such as wind turbine or photovoltaic. In order to save investment cost, the contribution to frequency regulation from renewable energy sources has been highly expected and it has been applied in many countries so far. The authors also have developed the frequency regulation methods based on combinational application of active power curtailment and inertial response control of wind turbine. In particular, the detailed control block diagram of the inertial response control was developed in Ref.[1] and [2]. However, the rotational speed characteristic of wind power output was not considered in the paper although the rotational speed of wind turbine has to be largely decreased after the temporal increase of the output. Therefore, in this paper, more detailed wind turbine model including the rotational speed characteristic was newly added to the wind turbine model and the effectiveness of the inertial response control was examined through numerical simulation.
