SMEDIS (Scientific Model Evaluation of dense gas DISpersion models) is a major European project to explore the issues associated with the evaluation of dense gas dispersion models. Its chief objectives are to develop and test a procedure or protocol for the scientific evaluation of such models, with particular emphasis on situations in which three types of complex effect-two-phase source behavior, terrain and obstacles-play an important role in determining the disperison, and to leave in place this protocol and a database of test cases for future use.
