A new high-performance switch actuation system for a high reliability railway

摘要

This paper describes how a draft specification for the design of S&C has been introduced to the UK railway industry, and how a new high reliability switch actuation system is being developed for tomorrow's high reliability railway. It focuses onthe innovative High Performance Switch Actuation (HPSA) point machine that has been developed as a subsystem of the overall High Performance Switch Actuation Sub-System (HPSS).The project has used a systematic approach to requirements capture, design, development and testing of this innovative piece of railway equipment. Results to date from the prototype trial prove that the HPSS will make a major contribution to the faultfree railway of the future.
