In order to improve the understanding of the impact of intermediate discharge ports (IDPs) on scroll compressor performance, a simplified CFD model for modelling scroll compressor flows was developed. Simulations were completed for a given scroll at rated and extreme conditions in order to compare the CFD results with an existing OD model and to analyse the interaction process between the scroll gas pockets and the IDP. Results showed that the simplified CFD model is able to predict scroll compressor flows whilst providing an insight into the flow interactions between the scroll gas pocket, the IDP and the high pressure zone.
