MYCOM and HOLROYD have studied noise and vibration reduction in medium-size oil-flooded twin-screw compressor in collaboration. The oil-flooded twin-screw compressor works with lobe contact between male and female rotors. Rotor misalignments in operation lead to transmission errors which can excite noise and vibration. In this study, rotor misalignments of a target machine were estimated and helix modifications which absorb the bad influence of these misalignments were designed by using transmission error simulation. As a result of experiment of prototype rotors, a reduction in the noise and vibration was confirmed under target conditions and part load conditions.
