A New Surfactant Made from Kelp Seaweed

Surfactants are manufactured from many materials of plant, animal and petrochemical origin and combinations of these raw materials, however the authors are unaware of any other surfactants made from seaweeds. Certain esters of alginates are noted to exhibit a degree of surface wetting capability and sode ash, obtained by burning cetain species of seaweed, has been used to saponify animal and vegetable fats.
