The epidemiological study of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) consists of 3727 individuals before and an additional 1670 subjects that were included after the Chernobyl accident, living in the contaminated Polessky region. 17 occupations are represented . In general, the database had 270 fields and located in 18 files for each person involved in the study. Under the leadership of the Ministry of Public Health of Ukraine (MPH), the Institute for Occupational Health, the Ukrainian Institute of Cardiology MPH and the Ukrainian Health Education Center MPH and 5 local hospitals cooperated closely in monitoring, survey and data collection. For cardiovascular diseases (CHD), mental and neurological disorders, respiratory diseases, endocrine and labor complications the relative risk for a combination of factors, considered a consequence of the Chernobyl accident rose from 7.0 (confidence limit ± 27%) to 17.3 (± 12%). Due to active intervention over a period of 3 years CHD morbidity decreased.
