Electron microscopy characterisation of porous ceramic bodies

There are many applications in which porous ceramics are essential for their structural and functional properties, e.g. catalyst supports, gas sensors and filters (chemical and molecular). In most applications control over pore size and distribution obtained from various fabrication techniques is vital to deliver a performance or response from a given device. The work here involves microstructural studies of a Cr_2O_3-TiO_2 composition which is screen printed and loosely sintered to generate a highly porous structure (>50 %). XPS and Impedance Spectroscopy (IS) has also been performed to relate chemical and electrical properties to microstructural features.
