We present here two examples of complex nano-objects characterized by means of electron energy loss spectroscopy. Two alternate methods, the spectrum-image technique using STEM and the energy filtering technique using CTEM, and introduced. The former technique has been applied to analyze a boron carbide nano-particle encapsulated by a few layers of graphite carbon. The latter has clearly unveiled a dual helical structure of amorphous boron and silicon dioxide.
