The main features of modular batch-type solvent cleaning machines are different to common vapour degreasers. The design specifications of modular batch-type machines include a tight treatment chamber where all necessary cleaning steps are carried-out, storage tanks for the solvent, an integrated distillation unit for continuous solvent regeneration, a filtration system und computer or PLC-based controls. A typical process sequence includes immersion cleaning, rinsing, vapour rinsing and drying. During cleaning and rinsing a variety of mechanical agitation devices can support the cleaning performance. The totally closed solvent circuit is realised by continuous solvent distillation, condensation and adsorption recovery modules and a gas-balance liquid/vapour processing. Solvent losses to the atmosphere are negligible compared to consumption related to oil drag-out. The cleaning performance and reproduceability of the cleaning results are excellent due to the integrated solvent regeneration and filtration system. In most application even high standard cleanliness levels can be obtained without vapour rinsing. Modular batch-type solvent cleaning machines are commonly used in degreasing applications and to a certain extend in defluxing. With new solvents available in the market applications in the electronic and optical industry are expected to increase.
