Siemens Power Corporation replaced the turbine steam paths at PECO Energy's nuclear power plant Limerick Generating Station Units 1 and 2. The need for replacement arose from stress corrosion cracking of the original low-pressure (LP) turbine rotor disks, which adversely affected the availability and reliability of the units. Through replacement with the state-of-the-art turbine components, efficiency improvements were achieved in addition to solving the reliability and maintenance issues of the original LP turbine rotors. The high-pressure turbine steam paths were replaced in order to achieve increased electrical output efficiency. The design features of the replacement turbine train will be discussed. In addition, the unique engineering activities performed to support this project will be commented on as well.
