This study involves computer simulations of Carolina Power & Light's Cape Fear Unit 6 furnace. The furnace is a tangentially fired twin furnace with a total of 40 burners, each half having 20 burners arranged in four vertical rows. The main fuel is pulverized coal. The boiler has been studied at a net load of 173 MWe, corresponding to a firing rate of 475 MWt. To meet new regulations regarding NO{sub}x, CP & L is reviewing technologies to reduce NO{sub}x emissions. This study relates to the application of MobotecSystem. The MobotecSystem consists of: · ROFA (Rotating Opposed Fire Air) · ROTAMIX (Rotary Mixing of Chemicals) · SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) This report is mainly considering the first step in the MobotecSystem, i.e. ROFA. Through a CFD-analysis, the fluid flow for the baseline case (existing configuration) is compared to the corresponding flow introduced by the ROFA technique.
