Screening of Marine Actinomycetes Having an Antitumor Activity and Isolated from Taiwan Strait

The purpose of this work was to screen marine actinomycetes having an antitumor activity. Actinomycetes strains were isolated from Taiwan Strait and identified according to conventional criteria. Cytotoxic activity was studied by MTT assay and DNAtarget activity was studied by BIA spot test. 20.6 % of marine actinomycetes cultures displayed cytotoxic activity on P388 cells at dilution at and below 1:320 and 18.6% on KB cells. 2.96 % of marine actinomycetes cultures displayed inducing activity and the genus of Micromonospora has the highest positive rate of induce reaction than that in other genera of marine actinomycetes isolated. These results indicate that marine actinomycetes could be a source for antitumor bioactive agents.
