During the last decade, there was a tremendous increase of the unit ratings of air-cooled turbogenerators with indirectly cooled stator windings. Originally this development was driven by the evolution of gas turbines which takes benefit of simple operation and maintenance of the air-cooled turbogenerators. Today, even in conventional steam power plants, the advantages of air cooling are becoming more and more important on the economic side. With a limit of 500 MVA (50 Hz) / 300 MVA (60 Hz) in air-cooled technology, a wide range of output can now be covered by this technology. By introduction of the Micadur H insulation system, the air cooling technology offers an even higher economic advantage compared to today's situation. In addition to the TOPAIR 25 with 500 MVA, the well proven TOPAIR 23 in the former 300 MVA range can now be delivered with a higher unit rating of 340 MVA featuring this Micadur. H insulation system when utilized at class F temperature rise.
