In this paper, a dynamic model-based technique for the performance monitoring of gas turbine plants is described. The basis of the diagnostic approach is a dynamic simulator, recently developed on the V94.3Ax model series characteristics, able to reproduce, with the necessary accuracy, not only the gas turbine plant dynamic performance but also the stationary one. Some proper "fine tuning" parameters permit to obtain, initially, the best agreement between the simulator and the measured rated performances of the real machine. Subsequently, the field data collected by the remote monitoring system of the power plant allow the simulator analysing the actual performance of the gas turbine as well as its time trend, with the aim to realise a "quasi-continuous" monitoring of the behaviour of the machine main components (compressor, turbine, combustion chamber, etc.) and to detect sudden or gradual deviation of both partial and full plant performances. The expected goal of the research activity will be the best setting up of a diagnostic technique that permits the performance monitoring of each installed Ansaldo V94.3Ax machine by means of the working data collected from various plants at the Ansaldo Service Monitoring Room and made available, from this last, for all the Ansaldo Energia SpA Engineering Units.
