THE FRAME 6FA OPTIMIZING POWER PLANT DESIGN FOR CUSTOMER BENEFIT

The Frame 6FA, recently introduced into ALSTOM's heavy duty gas turbine product range, is a 70 MW class machine designed to meet market needs for moderate incremental capacity additions. Compact and highly packaged, this gas turbine is particularly orientated to cogeneration and combined cycle applications for base load and mid-range duty. Besides implementing some adaptations of the gas turbine itself, ALSTOM has invested energy into the optimisation and standardisation of gas turbine accessories and all power plant components, keeping in mind that easy and quick customisation are the keys to reducing cycles and costs; two major issues in this day and age. The paper will present a background of the Frame 6FA gas turbine, looking in particular at technical highlights of the plant arrangement. Three ALSTOM power plant references will be studied, two Combined Heat and Power (CHP) Plants in Finland and the Czech Republic, and one single shaft combined cycle power plant in Germany, looking at the adaptations taken into account to meet user needs, and the different design processing required to achieve maximum customisation. More detail will be given on the operating experience obtained at the Porvoo CHP plant in Finland, and the Usti CHP plant in the Czech Republic.
