The final design consists of a tubular construction, with a polyester microfibre fabric forming a base, over which a series of nitinol wire-form rings are attached. A number of barbs are attached to the proximal end of the device, forming anannulus. The use of nitinol in its shape-memory condition means that the device can be fed down a relatively small catheter, and deployed into a lumen without any deleterious effects. The method of deployment, and the attachment of the nitinol, has been arranged such that when it is deployed into a lumen slightly smaller in diameter that the device itself, the rings of nitinol form into a geometry called a 'fishbone' that conforms tothe geometry of the vessel wall.
