Fuel consumption and CO_2 legislations demand the implementation of new technologies to meet the challenging targets for commercial vehicles. 48V Mild hybrids have a high potential to contribute to the fulfillment of those targets. This paper will focus on the results from a simulation study to obtain the optimum 48V mild hybrid architecture for the Japanese commercial vehicle market focusing on light duty commercial vehicle application and relevant driving cycles. AVL's toolchain and model based approach is presented to evaluate different architectures in a fast and efficient way. The presented results show up to 11% fuel consumption improvement with 48V hybrid architectures for the relevant cycles in the japanese fuel consumption regulation.
