Analysis of oral and maxillofacial injuries in motorcyclists

We retrospectively analyzed the severity of oral and maxillofacial injuries of 54 admitted patients and the protective effect of the helmet. Of all patients, 47 had been wearing helmet and 7 had not. The ISS in wearing the full-face helmet riders was lower than those in other two groups. The AIS of the face was slightly lower in wearing full-face helmet riders than those in other groups. Although wearing full-face type helmet is effective for decreasing the severity of injuries to the head or neck and the face slightly, some of oral and maxillofacial injuries cannot be prevented with wearing helmet.
