It is a general viewpoint that the hysteresis of leaf springs is harmful to vehicle riding comfort. In this paper, the riding comfort is analyzed based on a quarter vehicle model with and without consideration of the hysteresis behavior of leaf springs so that the influence of this behavior on the riding comfort can be revealed. Unsprung mass and tire vertical stiffness are included in the model, which is solved in time domain due to its nonlinearities. Both randomly produced road data and some real road data are used as inputs of the model.
