Development of the catechin air filter to have a deodorization function

In recent years, comfortable air environment in a car cabin is becoming an important factor. Odor substances in a cabin are caused by exhausted gas (HC, NO{sub}x, aldehyde compounds) and tobacco (ammonia, acetaldehyde acetic acid). These effect badly for human health and should be reduced. In this project, we aimed to develop a reasonable air filter to absorb and remove odor substances without releasing these in a cabin again. We found that catechins, which are substances extracted green tea and remove the odor, can be coated on polyester fiber. So we made an air filter with it and verified the effectiveness of the filter to remove the odor of tobacco and aldehyde compounds we report the structure of catechin air filter and the function.
