Particle size distribution and number concentration emitted from a diesel truck were measured using DMA (Short DMA and Long DMA) combined with a FCE and a CNC. The influences of engine load, the dilution ratio, temperature and the gas (HC, NO{sub}x etc.) concentrations on the particle size distribution were examined and their effects on the nanoparticle number distribution were evaluated. The measured size distributions are bimodal or trimodal depending on the experimental conditions. The results show that experimental conditions must be reported in detail if particle number concentrations are to be compared and interpreted.
