In this study, we developed the thickness addition in press working process that was compressive forming by restricting both sides of sheet material by inclined dies. The conventional thickness addition method, upset forming applies the vertical load to the thickness addition area, resulting in a folding due to a compressive buckling. This forming method was applied to automobile parts i.e. pulley piston cover in CVT. We carried out fundamental tests that were thickness addition forming in press machine, observation of specimen's cross section and measurement of hardness. The optimal forming condition was studied with much attention to tilting angle of blank and die cushion pressure.
