Increased power and further size reductions were required for the high voltage battery fitted in the 2006 model year CIVIC Hybrid. To achieve these targets, battery cooling performance needed to be increased 35%. The following modifications were implemented to increase battery cooling performance: staggering the arrangement of the batteries; reducing the space between batteries; positioning fins in the battery box; adopting a structure in which air is inlet along the side wall of the box; increasing the cooling air volume; and positioning partitions in the intake duct.
