Attainment of pleasing sound quality during acceleration

Three factors, heavy/light, smooth and beautiful, to describe the sound quality of four-cylinder engine were extracted in the subjective evaluation test. After translating into indexes based on objective data to express the characteristics of the vehicles, concept of sound quality was defined that engine's second- and forth-order components made a characteristics, heavy or light, while maintaining beautiful. Furthermore, that was verified in the subjective evaluation test by using the technique of Active Sound Design.
