The development of 6000 series aluminum alloy sheets, which have both high formability and high bake hardening ability

New 6000 series aluminum alloy sheets have been developed and applied to vehicles in need of further weight reduction. New aluminum sheets have higher yield strength after baking and the same formability as compared with 5000 series aluminum alloy sheets containing 5.5wt% Mg, besides the same anti-corrosion ability as current 5000 series aluminum alloy sheets. It is difficult to satisfy these all requirements at the same time. We have overcomed the difficulties to control the chemical composition and the heat treatment.
