In investigation of fire, the arc marks in wiring were necessary to determine the fire origin. In order to discriminate to whether these arc marks were caused by electrical failures or the fire, the arc marks formed several experimental conditions were measured by Auger Electron Spectroscopy (AES). As a result, the relative concentration-depth profile of the arc marks are affected by the insulation for wire, or the fire with gasoline, or the water for extinguishing fires, it is difficult to get aboundary value for discrimination. However, it may be determine to whether the arc marks were caused by electrical failures or the fire, by comparing arc beads of steel plate side and wiring side for the relative concentration-depth profile.
