Through an automobile exhaust-system, a catalytic converter is one dominant component to produce higher pressure drop, which induces engine-power loss and fuel-efficiency reduction. One the other hand, non-uniformity of flow through a catalytic substrate causes non-uniformity of thermal distribution on the substrate, then, the catalytic conversion efficiency decreases. The purpose of this study is both to reduce the pressure losses and to improve the flow mal-distribution. Namely we propose a new type of a catalytic converter configuration, and measured its performance experimentally.
