In 2000, we had developed a simulation code, ED-Designer, to predict the paint thickness for the Electro-paint deposition process, and have released it as a commercial code. It has been successfully used as one of the process design codes in the automotive companies. The results have been reasonably accurate and well accepted by the users. But if we can improve accuracy, we can get more benefits. Hence, we have studied the possibility of improving accuracy. The conclusion was that we needed to use a very accurate mesh to represent the car body, and needed very accurate correlation to predict the film thickness. We have, therefore, developed two kinds of tools: one is an advanced mesh generator, called MIME, which should make very accurate meshes easily; the other is a tool to make a very accurate material database from measured data automatically. In this paper, we explain these tools.
