Biological and chemical control of root diseases of tomato plants

The efficacy of some chemical fungicides and biocontrol agents in controlling damping-off and root-rot of tomato plants was determined in-vitro and under greenhouse conditions. These fungicides were tolclofos-methyl, thiophanate-methyl and metalaxyl+copper oxychloride. A combined treatment of a reduced dose of metalaxyl+copper oxychloride and some fungal and bacterial biocontrol agents efficiently reduced damping-off and root-rot caused by Fusarium solani, Rhizoctonia solani and Sclerotium rolfsii.The efficacy of disease control by biocontrol agents varied with host plant cultivar.
