Development of multi-effect solar distillation system for drinking water supply

To solve the shortage of safe water resources, it is a pressing need to diffuse water supply systems especially for developing countries. In many cases, the developing countries are insufficient area for the infrastructure of water and electricity supply. Solar distillation system developed can distill effectively saline or contaminated water. Decompressed and multi-effect distillation systems have been originally developed by our group since 1992. The improvements are always required for the initial cost reduction, the durability improvement and the stability of water quality. The results for the present still and the newly designed still will be introduced. Performance of the present still was about 5 kg·m{sup}(-2)·day{sup}(-1), and we expect the new still can get 10 kg·m{sup}(-2)·day{sup}(-1).
