Demonstrative study on a direct-drive variable - speed wind turbine generator system

We have been carrying out demonstrative operation of wind turbine generator Systems (WTGSs) at Tappi Wind Park in Aomori prefecture to obtain operational experience for wind power station and to study on durability and reliability of the WTGSs. Recently, we have added a direct-drive variable-speed WTGS in the same wind farm in order to investigate the performance, for example power stability and noise emission, of the direct-drive system. This paper presents outline and some findings of the study on the WTGS.
