A study on factors influencing the technical efficiency of hydro power plants in Thailand

摘要

This study measures the technical efficiency of hydro power generation facilities in Thailand with the consideration of economic and stability aspects. The stochastic frontier analysis (SFA) is applied to evaluate the efficiency score for each plant using data of total generated electricity, operational expenditure and plant's capacity. Multiple hypotheses have been made to fit functional form and assumption on distribution. Explanatory variables including ownership, capacity, age, water outtake, reservoir size, region and rainy season are tested if they have any effects on the occurred inefficiency. This model can be applied to support empirical evidence on the efficiency of Thai's hydro power plant which is the majority of renewable source of energy in Thailand.
