Investigations into Lightweight Patch Element for Use in Dual- or Multi-Polarized Antenna Arrays

Advancements in signal processing algorithms and hardware stimulate research on dual-, three- or even multi-polarized antennas. In many practical uses, these antennas should be lightweight and feature thin profile. Their designs must support high scale integration and enable installation on vehicles. For these reasons investigations into patch elements must again address fundamental issues, such as polarization properties. They should study properties at the element and subarray levels. High discrimination of any undesired polarization and small polarizing circuits under elements are toping the list of research objectives. In this paper we present some theoretical results of our studies aiming at development microwave antenna arrays capable to generate two to four polarizations.
