Green Sand System Design and Analysis for Improved Iron Casting Quality

There is a close relationship between casting quality and sand properties. However, it is not a one-to-one correspondence. The author used system-engineering to research green molding sand. A systematic model for molding sand was designed. Many complicated changeable factors in sand control were simplified, and were connected through the medium of input, output and feedback. The author thinks that the revelation of this relationship should depend on the systematic analysis. And the systematic analysis, or comprehensive analysis, should be done in conjunction with the sand components, the sand properties, casting production and casting quality. The result of the analysis indicates that, in this area of China, two-thirds of the casting defects are blowholes, sand inclusions and crushes. The main reasons are that the clay content is too high and the moisture content is too excessive. This paper presents a process for optimal properties in a large-scale sand system of this area.
