Metalcasting Engineering Systems: Harnessing the Benefits of Metalcasting

This paper describes the implementation of a process known as Metalcasting Engineering Systems (MES). The objective of this process is to install a new or improve an existing casting design and acquisition process, so that government agencies and commercial enterprises can exploit the benefits of metalcasting. The objective of this paper is to share with suppliers and customers of castings the experience gained by the first MES site deployed by the American Metalcasting Consortium (AMC) in coordination with the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) and the United States Army's Benet Laboratory and Watervliet Arsenal. To achieve this objective, the authors will provide a working knowledge of the general MES process and specific MES process steps, cases and results; future MES activities; and conclusions.
