Storage of spent fuel frompower reactors in india management and experience

摘要

The spent fuel management programme in India is based on closing the nuclear fuel cycle with reprocessing option. This will enable the country to enhance energy security through maximizingf utilization of available limited uranium resources while pursing its Three Stage Nuclear Power Programme. Storage of spent fuel in water pools remains as prevailing mode in the near term. In view of inentory build up of spen fuel, an Away-From-Reactor (AFR) On-Site(OS) spent fuel storage facility has been made operational at Tarapur. Dry storage casks also have been developed as `add on' system for additional storage of spent fuels. The paper describes the status and experimence pertaining to spent fuel storage practices in India.
