Environmental protection, and specially contaminated soils remediation, could benefit from the mineral processing approach, based on the knowledge of the properties of: solids, surfaces and the interface with aqueous solutions, If the robust and economic techniques developed for ores could be adapted to the recycling and remediation specificity (high heterogeneity, low tonnage), as the separations based on size distribution, density or magnetic properties, a special emphasis should be given to the physico-chemical and also to the bio-processes; the later, considered as emerging technologies, appear to have a bright future for environmental protection. Such adaptation before any commercial exploitation requires a process development phases.
