This paper provides a basis for discussion of the need for a new undergraduate MEng Degree programme to produce graduates who will subsequently be employed in the railway industry. A suggested outline of the syllabus is included, with the clear intention that it will be modified through discussions and contributions from potential employers and academics from institutions of higher education. A likely timetable for the implementation of the Degree is suggested, and readers are invited to make their views known by returning a questionnaire. The paper will primarily be of interest to all those who recruit people to work in the railway industry and to those involved with the education and training of students.
