UV-ozone treatment of PEDOT: PSS for improved charge transport in organic photovoltaics

The poly(3,4-ethylene dioxythiophene):poly(styrenesulfonate) (PEDOT:PSS) is a prevalent hole transporting layer in organic and perovskite solar cells. The effect of UV-Ozone treatment of PEDOT:PSS buffer layer on charge carrier mobility of devices is so far not studied. Here, we examine the effect of UV-Ozone exposure of PEDOT:PSS on charge carrier mobility of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/CuPc/Al devices by impedance spectroscopy. It is found that the uv-ozone treatment improves the charge carrier mobility in the devices. The mobility values of devices with PEDOT:PSS treated for various time periods of 20min, 40min and 60min are characterized and it has been seen that treatment for 20-40 min returned best results.
