The report regards a joint project carried out by eleven partners, with the financial contribution of the European Commission - V Framework Programme, aimed at developing a new technology capable of significantly improving the energy conversion efficiency and reducing the environmental impact of boilers for household heating and sanitary hot water production. The design and prototyping of the boiler is of high degree of innovation based on the use of catalytic burners and a wide-modulation range. For such a purpose new metallic and ceramic premixed catalytic burners, resistant to high-temperature and sulphur compounds, and a sensor-driven pre-mixing system are pursued. The main objectives are: a reduction of a 20% of energy and CO_2 emissions; turndown ratio of the boiler > 10:1; NO_x emissions < 10 mg/kWh; HC and CO negligible.
