Getting our data used: a national statistics office perspective

Why should data dissemination be important to a national statistics office? When the Office for National Statistics was formed in April 1997 by the merger of the Central Statistical Office (CSO) and the Office of Population Censuses and Surveys (OPCS), a great deal of work went on across the new organisation to focus on why we existed and what our shared vision was. We produced a "Vision and Values" statement which tried to encapsulate the answers to these questions:
