Three fire sensors have been developed to discriminate between diesel exhaust and fire products (CO and smoke) for use in underground mines that use diesel-powered equipment. One of hte sensors was also found to be able to discriminate between combustion products generated from welding and metal-cutting operations and the combustion products from fires. The principle of operation and test data for each sensor are the subject of this paper.
