In this work, the mechanism of fibre positioning imperfections observed in carbon epoxy composites is studied. A first simple approach has allowed to show that these imperfections do not appear during the final cooling stage of the cure process,but that they are the consequence of a fibre microbuckling phenomenon created by the resin shrinkage during the crosslinking reaction. In order to have a good description of this fundamental mechanism, both experimental and theoretical studies on singlefibre composite specimens are done. The structure is described through a model of beam on foundation whose response is determined experimentally by DMTA analysis.
