Twenty-one years ago I was a freshman in veterinary college. Professors speaking at our orientation ceremony at Oklahoma State University warned us that the "profession is changing" and that "we were the students that were going to have to live through those changes"......or something to that effect. It was a common theme of that decade as it was in the 80's and the 90's and will be in the 00's. To young idealistic yet students, that kind of talk was a bit unnerving. We had worked hard to get accepted into veterinary college and now wanted to enjoy the training experience and looked forward to settling down into the routine life of veterinary practice as we thought we knew it. We really didn't want to hear about change, and even less so after we completed our DVM degree. In our minds, we were then ready to apply what we had learned, and we didn't want our learning to become obsolescent before we even had a chance to use it. I doubt I was the only one thinking along those lines.
