Under conditions of soil strata, particularyly, for the concentrated area of houses, when the basement of a high - rise building is constructed, the damage of the project itself or some adjacent buildings is frequently caused by incorrect design of construction. In this paper, by using the program of explicit difference method, the mechanism of topdown construction method on soil - structure interaction was simulated and analysed for the basement of two high - rise buildings. Some significant laws were found after analysing the mechanism. The design and construction of two very difficult projects were finished under the direction of the mechanism. The monitoring of in - situ displacement was performed. The results from the theoretical analysis and monitoring are basically identical. The practice shows that the method has achieved remarkable economic result and useful experience.
