With the wide use of belt conveyors underpit, the centralized monitoring system of belt conveyors is receiving more and more attention. In recent years, as the computer science has been develpoiing at full speed, some institutes in our country have done certain work in the field of centralized computer control of belt conveyors. However, most of them take the single-chip computer or the programmable logic controller (PLC) as the main controller, and display by means of simulator or light. Besides, in the dispatching room above the pit only the start and stop of belt conveyors can be show. Since the 90s, the countries with advanced coal mining technology have made further imporvement on it by use of the distributed contorl system (DCS). Together with the industrial TV (ITV) and all kind of protections, they take advantage of optical fibre to transmit different parameters of belt conveyors, and the pictures of its major parts. The centralized monitoring system of belt conveyors is carried out above the pit. For the sake of the "Unmanned" belt conveyors underpit, some countries are developing a self-moving touring robot so that inspection of belt conveyors can be replaced by cameras.
