Nippon Steel has bene tackling the development of technology for injecting a large amount of pulverized coal into blast furnaces to decrease the fuel rate, increase the productivity coefficent, and use low cost coals. A blast furnace was test operated to clarify the problems and limitations of high rate pulverized coal injection. The combustibility of pulverized coal in the raceway of the blast furnace was evaluated using various lances to achieve more efficient combustion of pulverized coal.
